When Rustic Charm meets Modern Elegance

What do you get when a kitchen mixes modern with rustic in a smart manner, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the best of both (seemingly opposing) design worlds in one cohesive kitchen?  Why, you get this gorgeous space that is Della Stables in Northville, Michigan!

What once began as a 1,800 square foot 1960s farmhouse sitting on an expansive 10 acres, has been transformed into this charming space with character every direction you look.

In an effort to keep the rustic feel of the house, our homeowner and the E.W. Kitchens Dream Team worked around the vast cathedral ceiling and original beams to open up the space.  As a design element, the salvaged beams not only help to continue the rustic decor of the home but also help divide the zones into cooking, eating and living spaces.

Using Mouser Custom Cabinetry, a two toned look was designed with a deep knotty alder island with painted maple cabinets along the perimeter.  The X mullions designed on the sides of the over sized island bring an unexpected transitional design element that fits right in with the inviting feel of this massive gathering area.  The space was pulled together using Cesarstone “rugged concrete” countertops with stacked stone as the kitchen backslash.  The natural-hued stones taken to the ceiling compliment the natural wood ceiling and add a stunning visual element!  Adding appliances with pizzazz like a Miele coffee system and professional line Thermador range provides a modern contrast to the rustic style of this home.

It was our pleasure working with these incredible homeowners to create their serene, warm and nature-inspired home!  We have no doubt this kitchen is the true heart of their home and will be the place for gathering for years and years to come – especially for two of the most special members of the family, Lexi and Louie!
